Enbridge Wind Project

The Enbridge Underwood Wind Farm in Kincardine is a long-term monitoring program for their wind turbine farm (one of the largest wind project in Ontario at the time). Valcoustics completed the Acoustic Assessment Report for MECP approval and provided expert evidence at the OMB hearing.
Continuous sound measurements, as well as wind speed at different heights, have been on-going, since 2007, prior to the installation of the wind turbines. Correlation analysis to obtain the relationship between wind speed and wind shear and ambient sound levels was also done. Monitoring is continuing, to measure the sound emissions from the wind farm operation. Valcoustics is responsible for system maintenance and calibration, data acquisition and analysis at several sites.

Offshore Wind Turbine Noise

Under contract to the MECP, Valcoustics completed a technical evaluation of sound propagation Modelling methodologies to predict offshore wind farm noise impacts in Ontario. Scope of work included a literature review and consulting technical and government specialist, detailed review of propagation models, jurisdictional review and assessment of each model’s suitability for use in Ontario.

Napier Wind Project

In 2020, Valcoustics completed an Acoustic Audit for the Napier Wind Project in the Adelaide Metcalfe Township, County of Middlesex in Ontario. There were many challenges in this particular wind project to collect sufficient valid data intervals to satisfy the Compliance Protocol for wind turbine noise from the MECP. Valcoustics overcame these challenges and submitted a complete acoustic audit report to the MECP at the end of 2020 to demonstrate noise from the wind project complies with the sound level limits of the MECP noise guidelines.

Highway 400 Barrie Crossings, Barrie

Preparation of a noise study to evaluate the noise impacts from eleven street corridor crossings (9 existing and 2 future) of Highway 400 in the City of Barrie.

Ocean Club Residence Marina

Architectural acoustics for a high end condominium resort complex.

18 Yorkville Avenue

Architectural input on design of prestigious high-rise condominiums at Yonge Street and Yorkville Avenue, including mechanical room isolation, window requirements, isolation & acoustics for garbage rooms, loading rooms, exercise rooms, and a subway vibration assessment.

William Osler Health Centre (Brampton Civic Hospital)

New major hospital facility. Full range of acoustical engineering services, including interior acoustics, sound isolation and environmental noise assessment for site plan approval. Vibration isolation for vibration sensitive medical imaging equipment was also examined.

Casino Windsor and Hotel

Valcoustics provided design input for interior acoustics, sound isolation and mechanical noise control for the casino, entertainment centre and hotel tower including noise assessment of the rotunda waterfall, as well as the noise impact statement for land use approvals.

Sony Center Berlin

Valcoustics provided input on acoustical design involving retail spaces, cinemas, an IMAX theatre, meeting rooms, multi-media presentation spaces and residential condominiums. The IMAX Theatre and eight cinemas were part of a large commercial/residential development. A major sound isolation challenge was residential (apartments) located directly over the IMAX and large cinemas.
