This 6-storey, 450,000 ft2 facility located in Oshawa, Ontario includes 38 judicial hearing rooms, three motion rooms and three conference/settlement rooms, and associated support space and prisoner-holding facilities. It also houses offices for legal aid Ontario, Family Law Information Centre, Children’s Aid Society and probation and parole, as well as portable interpretation booths, remote video testimony rooms and videoconferencing capabilities. VCL was the acoustical consultant for the Design Build team and was responsible for ensuring that all acoustical aspects of the Project Specific Outline Specifications were met. The acoustical performance objectives included background sound levels within the facility, sound isolation between spaces, environmental noise control and reverberation control. Extensive acoustical proof of performance testing was done within the facility to ensure that the acoustical requirements were achieved.
