Sarnia Solar Farm

Sarnia Solar Farm

Located in the City of Sarnia, the Sarnia Solar Farm is the largest photovoltaic solar energy facility in North America. The 80 Megawatt (MW) alternating current project provides enough power to serve the needs of about 10,000 local homes per year while displacing approximately 22,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually – the equivalent of taking about 5,500 cars off the road. The first 20 MW became operation in December of 2009, and the project was completed in September of 2010. VCL did preconstruction sound level measurements to quantify the base line ambient conditions, sound level measurements during construction, as well as sound level measurements post construction for the preparation of the acoustic audit which was a condition of the Renewable Energy Approval for the site.
