Niagara Convention Centre (Scotia Place)

As Niagara’s largest conventions and meeting facility, the Scotiabank Convention Centre (SCCN), in Niagara Falls, offers a generous canvas of uniquely designed, versatile spaces; strategically located in one of the World’s most exciting destination.  The SCCN is an innovator of the unconventional and a model of a new class of ‘green’ convention and meeting facilities committed to sustainability and community leadership.  The new LEED Silver certified convention centre included an indoor multi-purpose venue with casinos, golf courses, wineries, theatre, etc.  VCL was the acoustical consultant for the Design Build team and was responsible for ensuring that all acoustical aspects of the performance specifications were met.  The acoustical performance objectives included background sound levels within the facility, sound isolation between spaces, environmental noise control and reverberation control which included the theatre space within the facility.  A major acoustical challenge was to ensure that adequate sound isolation was provided for the rooftop mechanical equipment since a lightweight steel structure was being used.  The solution was to locally increase the mass of the roof structure in the vicinity of the rooftop units to increase the airborne sound isolation performance of the structure.
